Departmental Overview
The Graduate School of Journalism is a complex academic unit whose mission is to expand the worldwide impact of truth-seeking, fact-based and inclusive journalism by training the next generation of diverse journalists to become exceptional storytellers.
In a time when democracy is threatened, and the viability of traditional media is uncertain, Berkeley Journalism works at the center of a creative network of people, institutions and ideas to foster a culture of opportunity, innovation, excellence, and belonging. Our goals are nothing less than to deliver world-class education to Berkeley Journalism students and to revitalize the field by changing who gets to be a journalist.
The Financial Services Analyst works largely in support of the Local Journalism Fellowship Program, a state supported post-graduate program that connects graduate journalism students with local newsrooms throughout California. The FSA will also support other financial services in the School of Journalism operations, including core administrative support and instructional support for classes, units and other School initiatives. Financial services activities will mainly include producing monthly financial reports, processing reimbursements and accounts payable, and support in budgeting and forecasting for the fellowship program.

Responsibilities
Processes accounts payable and reimbursements - works to submit or help staff submit their reimbursements, communicates with vendors on quotes and orders, submits orders in BearBuy, issues honoraria payments, sets up vendors, reviews invoices, and performs other AP processes as needed. Implements department budget allocations and maintains department chart of accounts, and related business processes. Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained and strengthened to protect University resources. Applies professional concepts to perform basic financial or resource analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and/or resource allocations of Local Journalism Fellowship program (Department). Prepares monthly department transactions report to send to campus, produces and sends other financial reports for Journalism budget managers as needed under guidance of Finance Manager. Tracks deposits and gifts to the program and making the budget allocations for proper spending. Processes and accounts receivables including deposits, wire transfer claims, and state allocations for Fellowship Program. Coordinate setting up 3rd party suppliers, paying vendors and guests per campus policies.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely. Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to function as a member of a team. Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 50% part-time (20 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.30 - $36.88.
